The Montblanc Great Characters James Dean honors one of the most famous actors of all time. After just three major films, he reached immortality. He was one of the greatest big-screen stars of his time, remembered for his leading roles in the films East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause and Giant. James Dean was exceptionally talented at portraying characters with rough edges, but his charisma his passionate delivery and his early death made him a legend. Though he never won an Oscar during his short, meteoric rise in Hollywood, he was nominated posthumously for an Oscar. With the Montblanc Great Characters James Dean Special Edition, Montblanc honors the legendary Hollywood star. The young rebel who won his place in cinematic history in just a year and a half.
The overall shape of the pen is inspired by the knife James Dean used in the movie Rebel Without a Cause, when he is fighting a gang. The pen is made of red precious resin with a subtle weave pattern in it, which is a reference to the red leather jacket he wore during that movie. The pattern refers to the jeans he wore in his favorite movies. The clip is reminiscent of a shotgun barrel as seen in his role as Jett Rink in Giant in 1956. Which he carried on his shoulders in one of his most famous scenes. At the top of the clip the Montblanc emblem can be found in resin. Next to the emblem the dates of his birth and death are finely engraved. The cap top is engraved in a pattern of a dollar bill. This is referring to the role money played in another legendary films scene from East of Eden. The inlay on the cap is inspired by the pattern of a bullet. On the ruthenium coated cap ring, one of Dean’s most famous quotes ‘Dream as if you’’ll live forever. Live as if you’’ll die today’’ is engraved. On the cone of the pen, there is an additional engraving showing the geographic coordinated of the place Dean had his car accident. Now known as the James Dean Memorial Junction. The pen comes in a special James Dean gift box.
The fountain pen uses a piston filling mechanism and has a 14kt gold nib that is engraved with a race flag with the license plate of the crashed Porsche 550 Spyder.

THE MAN OF THE TIMES.
Few creative figures have left such an indelible mark on popular culture as Walt Elias Disney. His unforgettable cartoon characters, optimistic storytelling and pioneering filmmaking have captured the minds and imaginations of adults and children alike. A lifelong innovator, he brought the on-screen entertainment into the real world with the opening of Disneyland Park in 1955.
“I do not make films primarily for children. I make them for the child in all of us.” - Walt Disney
Since his humble beginnings as a cartoon artist, Disney continuously challenged the creative status quo, pushing the boundaries of filmmaking and entertainment. The iconic Steamboat Willie brought us the beloved Mickey Mouse in 1928 and is recognised as an early example of an animation with synchronised sound. Lauded as a creative genius before turning 40, Disney was honoured with a total of 32 Academy Awards and 59 nominations – a record that remains unchallenged today.
PIONEERING SPIRIT. REIMAGINED.
Created in collaboration with The Walt Disney Company, the design of the Montblanc Great Characters Limited Edition Walt Disney™ is inspired by the famous monorail at Disneyland Park - the first daily operating monorail in the Western Hemisphere. The writing instrument's clip refers to the smokestack on the boat in Steamboat Willie, while the black, red and yellow colour combination and the Au585 solid gold rhodium-coated nib is a nod to Mickey Mouse. An exciting surprise can be found on the precious resin cap and barrel, decorated with a scanimation of the iconic character.
“It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.” - Walt Disney
For generations, Disney’s creations have been an invitation to open the door to the escapist world where fantasy reigns supreme. The next unforgettable story is waiting to be brought to life with the new Great Characters Limited Edition Walt Disney collection.
The latest Montblanc Great Characters Edition Elvis Presley honours the life of the artist, whose live performances and style changed the face of pop music. Skilfully crafted by Montblanc artisans, the collection consists of writing instruments and accessories that pay tribute to key stages in Elvis’s career.
While Elvis’s music made many hearts beat faster, another one of his passions was luxury automobiles, their sleek tail fins and powerful V8 engines. That’s why the silhouette of each writing instrument refers to a spark plug. Elvis's quote “Ambition is a dream with a V8 engine” is embossed on the cone, and the V-shaped clip and its 8-hole design are reminiscent of the engine block.
Elvis influenced music charts and redefined stage fashion. For the historic 1973 concert “Aloha from Hawaii” - the first live concert ever broadcast by satellite to 1.5 billion people across 40 countries - Elvis wore a white jumpsuit that attained an iconic status with its embroidered eagle glittering in the colours of the US flag. Now also celebrated in the design of Great Characters Elvis Presley Limited Edition 1935, the eagle crafted with hand-filled lacquered windows decorates the cap and his famous hit “Jailhouse Rock” is engraved on the gold nib. On the Great Characters Special Edition, the barrel of the writing instrument features the inscription "Elvis has left the building" - the famous words that informed ecstatic fans at the end of his live shows that there would be no more encores.
In 2022, Montblanc honors one of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th century who is widely regarded as one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music: Jimi Hendrix. Made from precious resin, the off-white color of the cap and its engraved pattern is inspired by one of the guitar straps worn by Hendrix, while the black barrel features an elegant pattern resembling a WAH pedal. The platinum-coated clip is angled to resemble the vibrato bar of an electric guitar. The Montblanc emblem on the cap top is made from precious resin. Another striking detail is the platinum-coated barrel ring which draws inspiration from a 1960´s guitar cable - it is engraved with the date of a famous Jimi Hendrix concert.
